El Adelanto

The El Adelanto group formed 16 years ago.  The 15 women currently participating in the group have been with Oxlajuj B’atz’ since its inception January 2004.  They crochet water bottle carriers, bags, balls, and children’s hats for Mayan Hands.  A few years ago a professional basket artist from San Francisco came to build on their basket-making skills and showed them how to use new materials and new stitches. They have taken the ideas and run with them, and are now selling over a thousand baskets a year of designs never before seen in Guatemala, or in the US.
